Thumbs up from Common Ground magazine

by Sean Holman on August 1, 2026

Almost a month after it’s first broadcast, Whipped: the secret world of party discipline continues to make headlines. In a review published in Common Ground magazine, film critic Robert Alstead has described the documentary as an “insightful and authoritative look” at the “how BC’s political party culture stifles debate and democracy.”

Meanwhile, in his own review of the film, journalist Jeff Jedras, who runs the blog A BCer in Toronto, argues against legislative action to curtail party discipline. Instead, he states, “If parliamentarians are under the whip, it is because they have willingly submitted to it. And they can just as easily throw off the whip if they choose too” - a position I agree with.
