“They sent us here to govern and we don’t. Everybody who works here knows that the real governing takes place in the premier’s office with a few handpicked friends and advisors.”
That’s just one part of former British Columbia Teachers’ Federation president David Chudnovsky’s final speech as an MLA, in which he diagnosed what ails provincial politics and prescribed some potential cures.
I used a clip from that powerful speech to promote Whipped: the secret world of party discipline. It didn’t make it into the final cut of the documentary. But it’s well-worth a view.
That’s why I’ve posted the raw footage of Chudnovsky’s 2009 speech, which discusses the need to loosen party discipline and institute electoral reform, among other proposals.
