The governing party united will never be defeated

ART Whipped postcard (federal)

The song Whip It is an eighties icon. But, based on the voting records of federal MPs, it could also be the theme song for Canada’s House of Commons.

According to an exclusive analysis of data provided by Cory Horner - the founder of the now defunct Website How’d They Vote - just 0.7 percent of recorded votes cast in that chamber between October 2004 and May 2013 broke party ranks.

That’s comparable to what happens in British Columbia where just 0.25 percent of the votes cast between June 2001 and April 2001 broke ranks.

But why do so many Canadian politicians behave like trained seals? Whipped: the secret of world of party discipline, answers that question.

Starting this week, Ontario resident will have a chance to see the documentary, which will be screening in Ottawa, Toronto, Kitchener-Waterloo and Thunder Bay.
